Relay For Life to benefit The American Cancer Society, June 3-4, 2006
The Javans would like to thank their family and friends who donated for
this good cause. Here are some of the pictures taken during the event
that they want to share with you. The relay went on until Sunday morning,
but the highlight of the event was the "Luminaria," (June 3rd, 9 p.m.)
wherein white paper bags are decorated with names of people whose lives
were touched by cancer. Names of survivors and those who lost the battle
were written on these white paper bags and were decorated, filled with
sand and a votive candle lit inside. These bags were put side by side
and arranged around the the track & field oval on both sides. All lights
were turned off, a 12-year old boy who won the fight against cancer gave
a speech, as the boy was speaking all the other survivors lit up their
candles first and everyone lit the others' candles and passed along the
light, a prayer was said, then people started walking around again, but
this time around the "illuminated" track, holding a lighted candle. Very
emotional and beautiful!
Thank you again for your support, enjoy the photos and see you next year!
